Background

As the twinkling tunes of Bedrich Smetana's 'Ma Vlast' sound, rain is quickly streaming down the hills. Here Smetana?s homeland is South Bohemia, a beautifully wooded countryside where heights and valleys alternate with each other in a short distance along the river Vltava. However, South Bohemia is not only abundantly supplied with natural values. Under the forests the hills contain considerable amounts of (precious) metals like iron, gold and silver. Already in Middle Ages people were exploiting these metals with as a consequence that South Bohemia is famous for the old and rich, medieval towns with their characteristic cultural history, like Tabor, Pribram and Pisek. Worth of seeing landmarks? Of course the old (Celtic) fortresses along the river Vltava, the old mines and the medieval town squares with their specific galleries. So, a perfect region for walking, (mountain) biking and sightseeing.

For exploring this unique region, the newly established travel agency ?Bohemia?s Best introduces varied and guided tours through the Bohemian countryside and cities. The active tourist with interest in sports, nature and cultural history will share in an attractive programme in which walking or biking trips are combined with visits to old city places. During six days all trips start and finish in the little, picturesque town of Sedlcany, sixty kilometres south of the Czech capital Prague. From Sedlcany a minibus brings the participants to the start of the trips and drive them back from the finish to the dormitory, where the luggage will stay. Cultural events are programmed for some evenings. The last two days are reserved for a visit to the old town of Prague. The tours are based on Bed & Breakfast.
